The herbivores on our farm (Cows and Sheep) are fed a 100% grass based diet. Whether it's the daily rotated pastures, or the supplemental hay fed in the wintertime, these animals never see grain. They are also fed, free choice, a blend of minerals including salt and kelp.
The use of growth hormones and steroids are not given to the animals
The routine administration of vaccines or antibiotics is not practiced at Whitaker Farms. There are certain times where faced with the chance of death or great suffering, that we choose to give medicine to an animal. Given the practices and management of the animals on the farm, this is extremely rare. If antibiotics are ever given to an animal, ample time is given before processing to ensure the health of our customers.
Animals are raised without the use of genetically modified organisms. Our feed (which can consist of corn, soybean, oats, or alfalfa) is sourced only from local, non-GMO committed farmers.
Animals are raised (season and weather permitting) outdoors on rotationaly managed paddocks. This means the animals spend a specified amount of time on a certain acreage of grass and are moved when that grass is spent, and fresh foliage is needed.
Food is processed without the use of Monosodium Glutamate.
Processed without the use of chemical preservatives such as Nitrates or Nitrates. Celery powder or juice is used instead.
